The Value of Natural Diamonds are determined by several parameters; these are commonly called “The Four C’s”. They are composed of The Carat, The Cut, The Clarity, and the Color of the Diamonds. Each of these subjects is explained separately to give you, the buyer, an idea of which one of these you prioritize, what is the most important for you in a jewel.
The CARAT
The weight of diamonds is expressed in carats, so 1 Carat equals to roughly 0.20 Grams. The decimals of the weight of a diamond are called points, 100 points equals 1 Carat. Unlike Gold the Carat only defines the weight of a stone, in gold it defines the purity of the gold such as 18 Carats Gold. The weight is determined on a scale and is also mentioned on the certificate of each Diamond.
In short, a Diamond of 1.85 Carats weighs 1 carat and 85 Points.
THE CLARITY
The Clarity of a Natural Diamond is based upon the presence of natural impurities or “inclusions” inside the stone. During its formation impurities such as dirt or gas bubbles can be trapped inside the diamond during its crystallization process. These inclusions are part of what makes the stone unique. They are a natural phenomenon and we always stive to find Diamonds with inclusions that are invisible to the naked eye (Eye-clean). Only about 1-2% of Natural Diamonds globally are completely clean or Internally Flawless. These are obviously much more expensive due to their rarity.
THE COLOR
Over 90% of all Natural Diamonds have a yellowish tint. The intensity of the color saturation in the diamond is what determines the color grade. The lower the saturation of color in the stone the whiter it will look and the higher the Value. The Color of Natural Diamonds are determined by a Letter, the highest color will be defined by “D” Color. From there we go down to the letter “Z”.
If the color saturation is extremely high then we get a different category, mainly the FANCY COLORS.
These Natural Diamonds are very color saturated. Depending on the type of color the value jumps upwards. The rarer the color the higher the value. This means that Red, Blue, Pink, Green, and Orange are the rarest colors and can reach extremely high values.
THE CUT
The Proportions and Symmetry and Finish grade of a diamond establish the quality of the cut. A good finish grade testifies to the workmanship of the diamond polisher. It refers to the symmetry of the facets and their overall finish. The best cut diamonds also have the right proportions between the different parts of the diamond. If these proportions are not optimal, the fire and scintillation of the diamond are affected, and undesirable visual effects might occur. Apart from the most popular ‘Round Brilliant’ cut, there are a range of other frequently used models, and one might also come across magnificent ‘fancy cut’ Diamonds…The cut grade describes a range of parameters of the natural diamond: proportions, culet and table size, girdle thickness, polish and symmetry.
The four C’s are a great tool to be used when you consider buying a stone. For every person the importance of the 4C’s will be different. The majority of clients will ask for a perfect stone at first, meaning excellent cut, Flawless and the highest color…. but they can rarely pay for that…
It will be your job to guide you, the potential buyer, to the right stone within your budget. For example, some people will prefer a larger size, others a whiter color while others will prefer a higher purity……
Ultimately you will trust us to guide you to the best stone….

Understanding the 4Cs of Diamonds
The 4Cs — cut, color, clarity, and carat weight — are the internationally recognized standards used to evaluate diamond quality. Understanding these characteristics is essential when selecting a certified diamond for engagement rings or fine jewelry.
Diamond Cut
Diamond cut refers to how well a diamond has been shaped and polished to reflect light. A well-cut diamond creates exceptional brilliance, sparkle, and fire. Moreover, cut quality significantly impacts the overall beauty of the stone.
Diamond Color
Diamond color measures the absence of color within a white diamond. Generally, diamonds with less visible color are considered more valuable because they appear brighter and more brilliant.
Diamond Clarity
Clarity refers to the natural inclusions and blemishes found inside or on the surface of a diamond. However, many inclusions are microscopic and do not affect the visual beauty of the diamond.
Diamond Carat Weight
Carat weight measures the size of a diamond. Larger diamonds are rarer and often more valuable, although overall beauty also depends heavily on cut, clarity, and color quality.
Certified Diamonds & Authenticity
At Belgium Diamonds, we believe certification is one of the most important factors when purchasing a diamond. Certified diamonds are independently evaluated by professional gemological laboratories to verify quality, authenticity, and grading accuracy.
Additionally, diamond certification provides confidence and transparency for customers purchasing engagement rings and luxury diamond jewelry. Understanding certification helps buyers compare diamonds more effectively and make informed choices.
